Carrie Marie Underwood (born March 10, 1983) is an American country artist. She gained fame after she won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. The first artist from the country music industry to be ranked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts and the only solo artist to reach the number one spot on the Hot 100 in 2000s. Her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), was bolstered by the crossover hits "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats", being the highest-selling solo female debut album in the history of country music. She won three Grammy Awards for the album, including Best New Artist. Carnival Ride (2007), her album that followed, featured one of the best opening weeks ever by an artist of female origin. It also garnered two Grammy Awards. The album she released as her third studio album, "Play On", was preceded in part by her single "Cowboy Casanova", and she won two Grammy Awards.
