She was born in Staten Island, New York City on December 18, 1980. Her father is Ecuadorian as is her mother, who is German, Irish and Welsh descent. Aguilera was born in Ecuador to an army soldier from the United States Army. Her father is also an American citizen. Aguilera auditioned in 1991 for "The Mickey Mouse Club" despite not being qualified to meet the minimum age requirement. Two years later she joined the cast and performed with Ryan Gosling, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake until the show was pulled in 1994. After sending in her cover of Whitney Houston's "Run to You", Aguilera was chosen by Disney to sing "Reflection" the song that was the song that serves as the theme for "Mulan" (1998).
