He graduated from Valley Central High School in 1997. While at State University of New York at Plattsburgh Annable was involved with the student-run TV station Plattsburgh State Television (PSTV). At PSTV Annable contributed to both the production behind the scenes as well as live. Annable also hosted of Late Night with Dave Annable and Cardinal Sports. He also hosted The Roommate Game. He was a part of the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York after he graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh, where he studied acting with Richard Pinter.
