 To find the right mix of players that will enable them to reach the playoffs, a few MLB teams have committed hundreds of millions. With spring training just a few weeks ahead, a handful of teams have been working on huge deals to lock in the best players in baseball for years to come.Detroit is a regular in the playoffs, winning four consecutive division titles between 2011 and 2014 before ending with a sub-.500 record for the first time since 2008 (74-87). In order to aid the team to get back to the promise land the front office committed over $100 million to a pitcher addition (Jordan Zimmerman) however they realized that this wouldn't be enough.They required more power, so they went out and committed $132.75 million for a brand new six-year deal to Justin Upton. The last time he played, his numbers weren't great as he played in San Diego's pitcher friendly park (.251 BA, 26 RBIs, 81 home runs) However, they did not drop much from the previous season when he played playing in Atlanta (.270 BA 29 RBIs, 102 home runs which is a career-high). The Tigers are likely to be betting on him to produce similar if not better numbers in their park.
