Michael Oher was born in Memphis, Tennessee on May 28th in 1986. Oher was born to Denise Oher, who was an drug addict and alcoholic and father, Michael Jerome Williams, who was often in prison. Due to his upbringing the child received very little focus or discipline throughout his youth. He re-entered first and second grade and attended eleven different schools over his first nine years as a pupil. He was placed in foster care at age seven, and alternated between various foster homes as well as periods of homelessness. Oher's biological dad, a former cellmate of Denise Oher's brother was executed in prison when Oher was a senior high school student. When Michael Oher was 16 years old, Sean Tuohy was and Leigh Anne Tuohy took over as the legal guardians of Oher. They arranged for Oher an instructor, who worked with him on homework for 20 hours per week.
