Ja Morant was born Temetrius Jamel Morant to Jamie and Tee in Dalzell, South Carolina on the 10th of August, 1999. His father was an athlete at Claflin University and his mother was a high school point guard before she became an NCAA softball player. He has a younger sister named Teniya who also plays basketball. When he was a kid, Morant practiced basketball in the backyard with his father. Morant went on to play in the Amateur Athletic Union circuit with the South Carolina Hornets. Morant was a student at Crestwood High School, where the school had him on the basketball team. By the end of his schooling Morant was the school's top scorer, scoring 1,679 points.
