Jennifer Kate Hudson, also known as J.Hud (born September 12, 1981) is an American actor, singer and talk show host. Throughout her career she has been awarded numerous awards for her work in film, recorded music, television, and theater. Hudson was the first woman and second African-American to receive the four most prestigious American entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony (EGOT). In 2013, she was also presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Time declared her one of the top 100 people in the world in 2020. She became famous when she was a finalist on American Idol's season three in 2004 where she was seventh. Her film debut was as Effie White in the musical Dreamgirls (2006) which for which she received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and became the youngest African-American woman to win in the category of competitive acting. After signing with Arista Records, Hudson released her debut studio album self-titled in 2008 and was certified Gold in the US and the UK and also won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
