Karen Sheila Gillan (/'gIl@n/; born 28 November 1987) is a Scottish actress. Her work in British television and film gained her recognition, specifically for her character Amy Pond, the primary character of the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who (2010-2013), which was nominated for and was awarded numerous prizes. Jane Lockhart and Ally were her first roles in film, in the romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending (2013). In Britain she also performed on the stage, first playing in John Osborne's play Inadmissible Evidence (2011) and later making her Broadway debut in Time to Act (2013). She was the first American actress to be a star in Oculus (2013) the film that was her first major commercial success. She then was the lead in Selfie (2014). Her international fame was achieved through her role as Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers Infinity War (2018).
